Red Bull Hike&Ride, part four: at the end of February 2006, seven teams of two snowboarders and/or skiers had 72 hours in the Swiss Alps to produce the best possible freeride video clip. In demand: one public team got into the mix with six professional duos.

“Don’t be afraid of the big names – they’re no different than you!” That’s Kenny Scheidegger’s advice to all potential participants in the Red Bull Hike&Ride Public Contest. At least Kenny, a Telemark skier, didn’t show any fear of the big names or the steep powder cliffs of Davos – the clip he and his friend Jürg Eugster made was sensationally chosen as the third best entry in the 2004 Red Bull Hike&Ride. The two Swiss were last year’s public team, and they placed higher than pro teams like Eva Sandelgard and extreme skier Andra Binning as well as Cyril Neri and Nicolas Vaudroz.

The Stakes

A new public team was needed for the 2006 Red Bull Hike&Ride, which took place in Switzerland from February 23 to 26. The challenge: to create your own, four minute long freeride clip. The script, camera, direction, editing, soundtrack and stunt responsibles as well as leading actors: you and your partner. The competition: six professional teams of two from among the best of what the snowboarding, skiing and Telemark scene have to offer. But remember: don’t be afraid! At the Red Bull Hike&Ride, it’s not about the steepest ascent, the most spectacular run or the highest jump – it’s about the coolest, funniest, most creative four minutes.

How to Get In

The six professional teams were chosen by the organizers. But anyone who could ski or snowboard and operate a camera can apply for the public team. To become a candidate, the teams had to film and submit a three to four minute application clip loaded with skiing and snowboarding scenes. The video’s quality, originality and creativity would have to convince not only an independent jury, but also the online visitors at www.redbullhikeandride.com.

Everyone can helped determine who got to start at the Red Bull Hike&Ride 2006.
