Back in September, a crew of the world's top ramp builders, pro riders and friends and neighbors descended up on the neighborhood of Plainfield, Il to participate in the 2nd installment of the Red Bull Backyard Build-Off. After three days, the back acre of contest winner's Jaimy Spreitzer's house transformed from a moderately sized mini ramp and a lot of green grass to one of the most jaw-dropping BMX courses you could ever hope to find. While the building crew, guided by the notorious Nate Wessel, worked their fingers to the bone day and night to put together the ramps, mother nature wasn't so cooperative. Rain dampened the riding contest, but everyone there knew that would not be the end of the road for the ramps.
Now a permanent fixture on the Illinois riding scene, the curved wall rides, gigantic arrow-shaped wedge, gapped capsule and just plain ridiculous square footage of wood are inspiring local riders and passers-through alike. Check the photo gallery to see what's going on in Jaimy's midwest wonderland. And if you ever get a chance to ride it, make sure you thank Nate Wessel, Ryan Corrigan, Lane Sneed, Afro Pat, Scott Cervany, Drake Miller, Ed Pollio, Scott Powell, John Saxton, and Chuck Schroth and Brian Vowell when you see them around. They sacrificed some blood, sweat and sleep for this monster. Time to ride, friends.
