Already a 6-time winner of the Baja 500, Steve Hengeveld decided to trade in his motorcycle for a chance to drive the trophy truck class for T-Force Motorsports.
After nearly 10 intense hours of racing, the no. 33 TForce Motorsports Toyota Tundra completed the Baja 500. The team encountered six rear tire punctures, one front front tire puncture, a rear end change, and a barrel roll to finish in eighth in the Trophy Truck class.
Driver Chad Ragland and co-driver Matt Riggle worked through an opening stint that included five of the seven tire punctures and the beginning issue to the rear end that eventually was replaced at mile 300 where Steve Hengeveld and co-driver Scott Wolfe took the truck over. Hengeveld and Wolfe had a sixth tire go down which lead to the truck going barrel rolling one and a half times. The duo got righted and made their way through a dusty final 144 mile to the finish. The team worked as a unit to move the effort forward to the finish of this extremely difficult Baja 500.
Of the 20 Trophy Trucks that started the race, more than 50% failed to make the finish. Look for TForce in to return to action later this summer in the Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno event.
