Ottawa, Canada may never be the same after our assault on public pools, local ponds, and even the canals near the landmark Parliament and Landsdowne Stadium.
Our crew of wakeskaters was looking to create some good humored trouble when they set off for Ottawa armed with a winch and two 24 foot slider boxes.
After arriving in the nation's capital with top Ontario riders Jesse Page and Jono Boysen of the Muskoka Militia, the team scouted out potential locations. Then, they picked up Red Bull wakeskater Brian Grubb, who had flown in from Orlando.
Brian had just returned from the Philippines and was in Orlando for less than eight hours before heading North to join everyone in Ottawa. To make things worse, Brian arrived withno luggage as everything had been lost by the airline except for his board bag.
It turned out that he didn't need much more than that as he spent almost his whole 24 hours in Ottawa on the water.
The crew started by hitting the famous Hogs Back Locks once Parks Canada staff had finished for the day. Then they moved on to set up the winch on the patio of the Canal Ritz restaurant situated on the famous Rideau Canal. Both locations drew huge crowds that cheered the riders on.
The big mission was the next day with an early set-up time of 4:30 am in order to beat security on the Canal beneath the Parliament Buildings. By 5:15 am Brian Grubb made history by stomping a frontside boardslide shuv-it
on the slider, with the famous Canadian landmark as his backdrop.
With only one close call from security, the crew then moved on to skate along the canal in front of Lansdowne Stadium, in a pond found in the affluent 'Glebe' neighborhood, and then wrapped it up in style when Grubb pushed the limits of wakeskating by riding away from a drop over an enormous 12-foot spillover just in time to catch his flight home.
No time to relax for 'Grubby' though as it was a quick touch down in Orlando before taking off for his next stop in Texas…even before his luggage was eventually found and delivered to his Orlando home.
A very special thanks to Brian for joining in the 'Chaos' and to the Muskoka Militia for helping make it happen! Mission accomplished.
