Pat Moore, Dustin Craven and French-Canadian Femme Fatale Marie-France Roy tackle Hood for the Burton Abominable Snow Jam.

Ben Fee, reporting from Mt. Hood, Oregon:

Summer shredding is the game. Mt. Hood is the name. Red Bull sent a triumvirate of their diverse shredders up here in order to make a mark on this geographical wonder for Burton’s 4th annual Abominable Snow Jam. The ginger prodigy Pat Moore arrived early to ride HCSC and prepare for his signature session next week. His presence is always welcome anywhere. That guy is nothing but the good stuff. French Canadian Femme Fatale, Marie France Roy—the rapidly rising star of women’s snowboarding, made the several hundred kilometer commute especially for this event. A guy from the other side of Canada, and the other side of humanity, named Dustin Craven somehow snuck across the border.

The first day of the contest was Tuesday’s quarterpipe, and the conditions were perfect. The High Cascade diggers shaped this thing like a majestic bust, only for it to be slashed by the meanest tranny slayers in the biz. Pat Moore unveiled to the crowd monstrous backside airs (last year he won THE highest air), and after several side-jacking attempts, his latest McTwist revert concoction was dialed. He blew the crowd away. They are THE new transition trick, and the poor imitators will most likely never catch up in style. Dustin rode for ¾ the time as everyone else, simply for desire’s sake, and pulled out more of a variety than nearly all of his competitors. He does these backside 3 crails that draw cheers from every row of the crowd. He did a backside 7 nosegrab that was of awesome caliber. After it was all said and done, Pat was barely nudged from the “best trick” category, and Dusty was a few laps shy of a podium.

Dustin also flexed what he considered to be lack of pipe skill (but what most people deem as natural talent) at the halfpipe the following day. His aptitude on a snowboard is enviable, and he was boo boo boo boo boosting huuuge, and his tricks were way different too.

The final day was the slopestyle. With girls and guys alternating in their heats, it was quite entertaining to try to spot when the girls stopped and the guys began. Honestly, it was pretty easy. Except of course if you saw Marie-France’s frontside 7s. They were legiiiiiiiiit and a half. And the judges thought so as well. They traded her the memories of that trick, for a brand new hi-def camera. Best Trick! Well deserving it was. Dustin made several laps, and was oozing the steeze juice, but just couldn’t put together his choice run.

Congratulations to all the competitors, and to Red Bull’s team of awesome characters: Marie-France (Best trick park), Pat Moore (innovative riding) and Dustin Craven (life counselor and steez guru). Stay tuned for the Pat Moore signature session! It will assuredly be at least as solid as the granite that Pat is constructed of!
