The clear favorite to take the event, Travis Pastrana, fell victim to bad luck.
Nate Adams v Mat Rebeaud
Rebeaud a little slow out of the gate but pushes through to the first transition. Rebeaud, first to the freestyle section threw down huge maneuvers. After the first pass, though, he found himself a couple seconds behind Jones.
Speed and Style is a combination of scores, so with a two-point deficit in speed, he needed style to come through for him. The judges found them deadlocked in style, eliminating Rebeaud.
Travis Pastrana v Kevin Johnson
Battling into the first corner, the Golden Boy, found himself in an unpredictable situation. Travis slid out, dumping the bike, and almost certainly handing the win to Kevin Johnson.
Travis charged hard, but there was no amount of point that could make up the ten-second gap created by the crash. Pastrana gained ground in Style but still left four points between him and Kevin Johnson.
Mike Mason v Ronnie Renner
Renner flew out of the gate, taking advantage of Mason's wheelie. Clean through the Speed section he held a two second lead heading into Style. Mason crashed, leaving the door wide open for Renner who sealed the deal emphatically with a no footed can-can over the finishline.
Adams v Johnson
Adams clearly the slower of the two, but held it down in the Style section. Adams made up the points in Style and moves on.
Renner v Stenberg
Renner got hung up on the transition and left a huge gap for Stenberg. On his freestyle lap, Stenberg went off the course and did not get back on the bike. By virtue of not finishing, Renner got the free pass on this head to head match up.
Finals: Renner v Adams
Neck and neck into the first corner, this is a battle between freestyle legends. Renner slowed up and pulled a huge dead body into a massive whip. At the finish of the first lap, Adams enjoyed a two second lead. That combined with backflip variations made Nate Adams the clear winner of the two.
3rd place: Johnson v Stenberg
This race breaks down easily, Kevin Johnson easily smoked Jeremy Stenberg (Stenberg was just coming off a crash in the previous round) in the Speed section. Likewise, Stenberg made Johnson look like a novice through the Style Section. At the end of the day, it was Stenberg's Style points that earned him the bronze in Speed and Style.
