Felix Baumgartner's record-breaking free fall from the stratosphere made him one of the highest trending people of the year, according to Google's 2012 Zeitgeist website.
Google filtered through an aggregation of one trillion searches on its search engine (and eliminated spam and repeat queries) in order to come up with its list of 10 people -- to capture what people were talking about this past year.
Baumgartner, who on October 14 ascended to an altitude of 128,100 feet and then leaped back to Earth, breaking three records in the process, resonated deeply with people all over the world, as the live jump dominated Twitter and YouTube.
By year's end, the Austrian became the no. 6 globally trending person of the year, ahead of Jeremy Lin, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Kony and Donna Summer. Whitney Houston topped the list (as well as several other lists).
